Department of Roads and Transport Engineering

Welcome to the Department of Roads and Transport Engineering, a place where we nurture the next generation of skilled and qualified engineers dedicated to designing and supervising infrastructure projects. Established in the academic year 2013/2014, our department serves Al-Qadisiyah Province and the broader region of southern Iraq.

About the Department

Our department was born out of necessity, recognizing that the Civil Engineering Department alone couldn’t cover all the essential courses related to roads and transport engineering. Civil engineering departments typically encompass a broad spectrum of subjects, including Road Engineering, Structural Engineering, Soil and Foundation Engineering, Structural Materials, Sanitary and Environmental Engineering, and Water Resources Engineering.

For our first- and second-year students, the materials we teach are quite similar to what general civil engineering departments offer. However, the real journey into roads and transport engineering begins in the third year and intensifies in the final year (fourth stage). Here, our students dive deep into courses that focus on infrastructure design, covering roads, bridges, railways, and airports, as well as road maintenance, traffic safety, and road planning. Additionally, students study foundational civil engineering subjects like soil mechanics, foundation design, theory of structures, and the design of concrete and steel structures.
