Vision, Mission, and Targets

This Academic Program Description presents the Bachelor of Chemical Engineering program at Al-Qadisiyah University. The program is organized over four academic years and eight semesters with a total of 240 ECTS and 6,000 student-workload hours. It defines the program vision and mission, educational objectives, graduate outcomes, curriculum structure, teaching and assessment methods, faculty profile, continuous improvement framework, curriculum mapping, and detailed course descriptions. The program is designed to provide students with a balanced foundation in mathematics, sciences, engineering fundamentals, chemical engineering core subjects, laboratory practice, design, computing, professional skills, and graduation-project work relevant to industrial and petroleum sectors.

Department Vision:

Leadership and excellence in chemical engineering sciences and their applications to serve the national industry and achieve sustainable development.

Department Mission:

To prepare scientifically and professionally qualified graduates in chemical engineering, equipped with innovation and scientific research skills, and to contribute effectively to solving technical problems and developing the chemical and petroleum industries to meet labor market needs.

Program Educational Objectives – PEOs:

The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) for the Chemical Engineering Department at Al-Qadisiyah University are designed to prepare graduates who, within a few years of graduation, will demonstrate:

    1.   Professional Practice: Successfully practice as chemical engineers in oil, gas, and industrial sectors, contributing effectively to technical projects.
    2. Lifelong Learning: Pursue continuous professional development through graduate studies, specialized training, and staying updated with technological advancements.
    3.  Responsibility & Ethics: Adhere to professional engineering ethics, safety standards, and environmental regulations in their engineering practice.
    4.  Leadership & Teamwork: Work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and demonstrate leadership and communication skills in their workplace.

Graduate Outcomes:

The Chemical Engineering Department has adopted the standard Graduate Outcomes (GOs) defined by the Iraqi Council of Accreditation for Engineering Education (ICAEE). By the time of graduation, students of the program will have demonstrated the following abilities:

  1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  2. An ability to apply the engineering design process to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration for public health and safety, and global, cultural, social, environmental, economic, and other factors as appropriate to the discipline.
  3. An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
  4. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  5. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
  6. An ability to recognize the ongoing need to acquire new knowledge, to choose appropriate learning strategies, and to apply this knowledge.
  7. An ability to function effectively as a member or leader of a team that establishes goals, plans tasks, meets deadlines, and creates a collaborative and inclusive environment.
